Where is this school located? How long would it take you to get there from Garnet Valley? How do you feel about this distance?
University of Delaware is located in Newark, Delaware. To get there from Garnet Valley it takes about 45 minutes. This distance might actually be a little too close for me. It would be nice to easily be able to get home if I ever needed to, but I imagined myself going a bit further. 2. How many undergraduate students attend this school? How many graduate students? There are about 19,117 undergraduates enrolled at UD. The total enrollment (as of 2017) is 23,774 3. List three sports, clubs, and/or organizations that the school offers that interest you. Consider Greek life (fraternities/ sororities), campus ministry, study abroad opportunities, community service organizations, etc. I would definitely consider the study abroad opportunities that UD offers. My sister did it a few years ago and I have always imagined spending a semester in a different country. I would also consider joining UD’s dance team. UD has many different sororities, and I would consider joining one, but it honestly doesn’t seem like something I would love. 4. What kind of internships are available to students of this school? Try to find the answer to this question for your prospective major. There are many off campus offices and organizations that are willing to give internships to UD students. There are also some opportunities on campus for students to intern in an education building. 5. What is the campus setting (urban, suburban, rural, etc.)? What kinds of off-campus experiences are available to students at this school? The campus setting itself is suburban but it has an urban “vibe” to me. There is a lot of open space and greenery on campus, but it is surrounded by many major roads and shops. There are a lot of part-time job opportunities for students off campus in the surrounding diners and stores. 6. What are three majors that this school offers that you would like to consider? 3 Majors that UD offers that I would consider are communications, psychology, and education 7. What is this school’s job placement rate for graduating students? UD’s job placement rate for graduating students is about 62% 8. When is the application deadline? The application deadline is January 15th 9. Does this school accept the common application? UD accepts both common application and coalition 10. What are the SAT/ACT requirements for this school? For the SAT, your english scores must be between 530-640 and Math must be around 530-640 as well For the ACT, your score should be a 22-29 11. What are the GPA/Class Rank requirements for this school? The average GPA for students at UD is 3.71 12. What other admissions requirements are there? SAT 2, letters of recommendation, personal statement, interview, audition, etc.? Students must complete a Self-Reported Academic Record as a substitute for a transcript that is required after acceptance. 13. Is this school “Safety” “Reach” or “Middle of the Road” for you? This school is a Middle of the Road for me. Both my English and Math scores in the SAT are on the higher end of the average. 14. Where is the Health Center and/or Counseling Center located and what are the hours? How do you make an appointment at the Counseling Center? Both the health center and counseling center on campus is at 282 The Green, Newark, DE 19711. These centers are both open 24 hours for the students. In order to make an appointment, you can either go onto a website online, or call the office 15. What are the hours for the Writing Center? Do you need an appointment or can you just drop in? The hours for the Writing center are 9am-8pm Monday-Thursday and 10am-4pm on Friday. To make an appointment, you must fill out the information online through a link on the website 16. What academic supports/curricular accommodations can students with special learning needs receive? At UD there are many programs for students who need specific help. There are also tutoring slots available in the writing center for students to make appointments with. |

University of Maryland is located in College Park, Maryland. It is about a 2 hour drive from Garnet Valley. I am perfectly okay with this distance. I feel that it is far enough for me to feel like I am living on my own and responsible, but it is also close enough for me to easily be able to go home if there is an emergency. 2. How many undergraduate students attend this school? How many graduate students? There are about 30,762 undergraduates enrolled in UM. The total enrollment is 40,521 students. 3. List three sports, clubs, and/or organizations that the school offers that interest you. Consider Greek life (fraternities/ sororities), campus ministry, study abroad opportunities, community service organizations, etc. I would be interested in UM’s study abroad opportunities because I would love the chance to travel to new places while also continuing my education. I would also be interested in joining any dance programs they are offering. I have been dancing my entire life so that would be a nice way to continue. I would also consider joining a sorority. I don’t really see myself as someone who would be in one, but it is something I would consider. 4. There are many opportunities on and off campus for students to intern, either throughout the year, or during the summer. There are many part-time jobs and internship opportunities available for students on and off campus. 6. The average GPA is a 4.28 12. What other admissions requirements are there? SAT 2, letters of recommendation, personal statement, interview, audition, etc.? Nothing else is required, but the admissions office recommends College Prep courses and recommendations. 13. Is this school “Safety” “Reach” or “Middle of the Road” for you? This school is a reach for me. At the moment, by SAT score is below average and my gpa does not meet their average requirement. 14. Where is the Health Center and/or Counseling Center located and what are the hours? How do you make an appointment at the Counseling Center? The health center at UM is at 140 Campus Dr, College Park, MD 20740 with hours of 8am-6pm The counseling center is at 4281 Chapel Ln, College Park, MD 20742 with hours of 8:30am-4pm. To make an appointment at the counseling center, you can either call in to the office, or go to the center and make an appointment at reception. 15. What are the hours for the Writing Center? Do you need an appointment or can you just drop in? The Writing Center is open from 9am-4pm. A student can make an appointment by going there during business hours and making an appointment or calling in. 16.
